Handmade Glacier Gaiwan by Minna Graham

These glacial hued ceramic gaiwans are handmade by Minna Graham in her Daylesford studio. The gaiwans come in an iron black exterior glaze that contrasts against their icy blue interior glaze. Under bright lighting conditions, the outer black glaze gives off a subtle metallic sheen while the inner blue glaze has a high gloss finish.

Each gaiwan bowl rests atop a short footed base and have a squat and rounded profile akin to a gum nut. The lids are slightly arched and have a concave knob to stabilise your finger when pouring brewed tea. As a result of being fired in a gas kiln, the gaiwan exhibits flashing and other reduction effects on both its inner and outer glazes meaning no two gaiwans are exactly the same.

The gaiwans come in two sizes: 100ml and 140ml

The 100ml gaiwans are ideal for 5-7g of tea in gongfu brewing.

The 140ml gaiwans are ideal for 8-9g of tea in gongfu brewing.
