2024 Wenshan Baozhong Taiwanese Oolong Tea

Baozhong (also called Pouchong) — literally meaning ‘wrapped kind’ — is a tea that falls in-between green and oolong tea on the processing spectrum. Baozhong tea is more fragrant and fruity than a typical green tea; less oxidised than most oolongs and unroasted.

This particular tea caught our attention as having enough thickness, body, and sweetness to compete with our daily diet of strong Yunnan teas. From the first steep, this tea offers a highly floral and delicately sweet flavour, with a melon fragrance and creamy mouthfeel. Successive steeps highlight the tea’s low astringency and bitterness, resulting in an elegant profile that is sweet, thoroughly soft and quenching.

Produced in early spring 2024 from Qing Xin varietal tea plants in Wenshan, Taiwan.

Each purchase is for 50g of loose-leaf oolong tea, packaged in a resealable bag. This tea will ship from our Taiwan warehouse, not from our Melbourne warehouse. If your order contains items from both locations, the items will ship separately.

  • Use boiling water (100C).

We recommend approx 1g of tea per 15ml of water for Gongfu-style brewing in a teapot or gaiwan. Rinse the leaves once and then brew several times until there is no flavour left.

For Western-style brewing in a larger teapot, use approx. 5g per 100ml of water. You can re-brew the leaves a few times.

To brew direct in a mug, use 1-2g of tea in the bottom of the cup, fill with boiling water, and drink once cool. Re-fill the cup with more water when you've drunk 1/3rd of the tea. Repeat until there is no more flavour left.

  • All of our teas are suitable for long-term storage and aging.

Keep your tea away from sunlight and strong smells, and somewhere with stable climate conditions.

You can keep it sealed inside the re-usable bag the tea comes in, or another non-porous container.
