2024 'Syrup' Ripe Puerh Tea

A pallet of ripe strawberries from the 80s meets a litre of Food Science Grape Juice® from the 50s in a sunlit orchard of recently bloomed orange trees off the coast of forever and ever.

Yeah, it’s that good.

2024 marks the return of ripes to KUURACORP™ in a big way, and for good reason too. More ripes in the lineup means more rotation on (y)our daily basis, which equals greater chance for ageing cakes as time softens that characteristic fermented ‘za into a mellow and enduring sweetness. More ripes, less downtime, and the wide open road.

Syrup was borne out of desire for a ripe of equal moorishness to Kuura-Cola®, albeit with a bolder sweetness and more body if we can help it. Made from a blend of tea materials from 2021 and 2022, these piles are (finally) coming out of their fermenting cage, and you’ll find they’re doing more than just fine.

When brewed, this tea yields an unmistakably viscous body with a warm spiced wood fragrance and pronounced sticky-sweetness. It’s suited to multiple steeps and you can count on exactly 0 astringency from rinse to finish. If you’re looking for a highly drinkable, fragrant and syrupy sweet ripe, it’s as Rick Astley almost said — ‘you couldn’t get this from any other ripe’.

  • Use boiling water (100C).

We recommend using approx 1g of tea per 15ml of water for gongfu-style brewing in a teapot or gaiwan. Rinse the leaves once and then brew as usual. You can re-steep the leaves several times until there's no flavour left.

For Western-style brewing in a larger teapot, use approx 5g tea per 100ml of water. You can re-brew the leaves a few times.

To brew direct in a mug, use 1-2g of tea in the bottom of the cup, fill to top with boiling water, and drink once cool. Re-fill the cup with more water when you've drunk 1/3rd of the tea. Repeat until there's no more flavour left.

  • All of our teas are suitable for long-term storage and ageing.

Keep your tea away from sunlight and strong smells, and somewhere with stable climate conditions.

You can keep it sealed inside the re-usable bag the tea comes in, or another non-porous container.
