Gongfu Teaware Set by Minna Graham — Quail Egg

This handmade ceramic gongfu teaware set includes one gaiwan, three teacups, and a plate that can be used as either a tea boat or a gaiwan plate. Each piece comes in a richly patterned, brown ‘quail egg’ glaze. 

The gaiwan has a short and round profile. Its outer walls feature a heavily streaked and speckled cork brown glaze that has a velvet-like finish. The gaiwan’s inner walls come in a densely speckled greenish brown ‘quail egg’ glaze that has a high gloss finish.

The three teacups in this set have a tall and flared profile. They have a triangular base and three hand carved triangular facets adorning the outer walls along the cup’s base. Each cup features unique streaking throughout the outer glaze, and dense reduction speckling in the inner glaze as a result of Minna Graham’s careful firing process.

The plate has a slightly raised profile and an exaggerated lip to keep any liquid contents from spilling out, making it suitable for use as both a tea boat or gaiwan plate. This plate comes in the same densely speckled quail egg glaze as the gaiwan and teacup’s interiors. This plate features a hand carved spiral motif along the plate’s outer wall toward the base.

The gaiwan can hold approximately 140ml of liquid.

The teacups can hold an average of 70ml of liquid each.
