Gongfu Teaware Set by Minna Graham — Duck Egg

This handmade ceramic gongfu teaware set by Minna Graham includes one gaiwan, two teacups, and a plate that can be used as either a tea boat or gaiwan plate. These pieces come in a pale ‘duck egg’ celadon glaze with significant reduction speckling and streaking throughout.

The gaiwan has a short and round profile. It flares outwardly from a triangular base, with hand carved triangular facets adorning the outer wall along the base. The gaiwan’s exterior comes in pale duck egg blue glaze with cork brown streaking and has a velvet-like finish. The gaiwan’s interior features a intensified greenish-brown glaze with increased reduction speckling and has a high gloss finish. Like many of Minna Graham’s pieces, this gaiwan’s glaze features thin, glassy blue veins known as ‘crazing' — a result of the glaze pooling and vitrifying during high heat firing.

The two teacups in this set have a short and round profile. A hand carved spiral motif covers the bottom third of each cup - which remains unglazed - giving the cups a pleasant tactility. These teacups come in a densely speckled duck egg glaze with a high gloss finish, mirroring the interior glaze of this set’s gaiwan.

The plate has a slightly raised profile and an exaggerated lip to keep any liquid contents from spilling out, making it suitable for use as both a tea boat or gaiwan plate. This plate comes in the same glaze as the teacups and features the same hand carved spiral motif along the plate’s outer wall toward the base.

The gaiwan can hold approximately 120ml of liquid.

The teacups can hold an average of 40ml of liquid each or 60ml each when filled to the brim.
