Handmade Carved Teacup by Minna Graham — Charcoal

These petite and pinched stoneware teacups are handmade by Minna Graham in her Daylesford studio, with a strongly ridged exterior and charcoal black glaze throughout. The purposefully irregular hand carved outer surface features cuts, dimpling, and deep recesses that bring to mind mountains, rock shelters, and eroding cliff faces.

Both the inner and outer glaze are uniformly matte black with minimal reflection or refraction, giving the cups an understated visual profile that draws attention the cups’ tactile qualities. Similar to our other teaware from Minna Graham, these teacups were fired in a gas kiln resulting in subtle reduction effects on the glaze such as spotting and flashing. Hints of amber and burnt ochre are visible throughout the cup's exterior glazing - especially along ridges and recesses. 

In terms of form, these cups are slightly footed giving them a near flush profile when placed on an even surface. Each teacup has a gently pinched cylindrical shape that flares into a rounded lip. While these teacups are among our smallest in size and internal capacity, the intricate hand detailing and chunky  spine-line ridges make them a pleasure to hold in the hand and uniquely appealing to sip tea from. 

Each cup can hold approximately 30ml of brewed tea, or 40ml if filled to the brim.
