2019 'Psychotropical' Raw Pu-erh Tea

'Psychotropical' is a raw (sheng) puer from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. Per our typical spiel, the material comes from plants in good growing conditions, which means we're talking high biodiversity and a non-interventional agricultural approach (i.e. no pesticides and whatnot). This ain't no industrial plantation rubbish.

The maocha was harvested in the Spring of 2018 and aged loose for a year before being pressed, making this tea a lot stronger and easier to drink than many of our fresher teas.

Overall this raw pu-erh tea has quite a fruity, juicy character, with a good amount of sweetness, a nice aftertaste, and no overwhelming bitterness or astringency. A tea with plenty going on, and loosely compressed enough that it's easy to break apart with your hands.

The art was a special commission from Melbourne artist Joe Baker, aka Bakedlab.

Spring 2018 material, 200g cakes, 5 cakes per bamboo-wrapped tong.

  • Use boiling water (100C).

We recommend approx 1g of tea per 15ml of water for Gongfu-style brewing in a teapot or gaiwan. Rinse the leaves once and then brew several times until there is no flavour left.

For Western-style brewing in a larger teapot, use approx. 5g per 100ml of water. You can re-brew the leaves a few times.

To brew direct in a mug, use 1-2g of tea in the bottom of the cup, fill with boiling water, and drink once cool. Re-fill the cup with more water when you've drunk 1/3rd of the tea. Repeat until there is no more flavour left.

  • All of our teas are suitable for long-term storage and aging.

Keep your tea away from sunlight and strong smells, and somewhere with stable climate conditions.

You can keep it sealed inside the re-usable bag the tea comes in, or another non-porous container.
